Biography
Vilma Ghiani’s passion for weaving is rooted in her childhood, born from watching her mother’s industrious hands at work. That childhood curiosity evolved over time into a life choice and a profound love for the textile arts, which Vilma continues to practice today in her workshop in Seulo.
Located in the heart of Sardinia, within the “Blue Zone”—a region world-renowned for the longevity of its inhabitants—Vilma’s laboratory is a place where time seems to follow the rhythm of the threads. Here, the artisan blends traditional mastery with contemporary collaborations involving architects and designers, creating exclusive interior design pieces that tell the story of the island with a forward-looking vision.
She is joined in this creative journey by Maria Rosa Puddu, a weaver who shares this path thanks to her extensive experience and direct link to the teachings of Vilma’s mother. Maria Rosa brings a deep knowledge of traditional techniques to the workshop, and her contribution is essential for preserving the authenticity of their art. Vilma is grateful to share this professional and human adventure with her.
The team’s vision is further enriched by Arianna Piras, a young designer who encountered Su Tessingiu Seulo in 2024. In the heart of Sardinia, Arianna’s story intertwined with those of her mentors as she learned the foundations of traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by this physical connection to the loom, she decided to remain in this context to explore the art of weaving to its fullest depth, bridging the gap between historical heritage and contemporary design.
Technique & Process
Every creation by Su Tessingiu Seulo is the result of an ancient ritual made of attention, precision, and soul. The process is based on millenary techniques and strictly natural materials:
The Manual Loom: Described by Vilma as her “time machine,” the manual loom is the tool that allows her to intertwine past and present into unique, timeless artifacts.
The “Pibiones” Technique: The core of the production lies in the complex technique that weaves warp and weft to create pibiones—characteristic small reliefs that form unique patterns and geometries on the fabric’s surface.
Sustainable Materials: The choice of materials falls exclusively on natural and sustainable fibers, such as wool and cotton, ensuring quality and respect for the environment.
Innovation and Embroidery: Beyond classic weaving, the workshop experiments with new visual languages, integrating modern embroidery that breaks the linearity of the traditional weave to explore new creative forms.
From carpets to tapestries, each piece is entirely handcrafted and conceived as a “symbolic map” of Sardinian stories, bonds, and traditions.

Sardinian Handwoven Rugs
The Sardinian rug is a masterpiece of textile art made by the Sutessingiu workshop based in Seulo. Each rug is not just a piece of decor, but a “textile narrative” crafted with ancient knowledge passed down through generations in the heart of the Barbagia region.
Every creation is entirely hand-loomed using traditional techniques and premium natural fibers. Vilma’s work is defined by:
Pure Sardinian Wool: For durability and authentic texture.
Cotton & Linen: To create refined and intricate details.
Tailor-made Excellence: Every piece is customizable in yarn and design, ensuring a unique, unrepeatable work of art for your home.
To weave is to tell the story of the territory. The motifs—geometric or symbolic—are inspired by the Sardinian landscape, its history, and its seasons. Choosing a Sutessingiu rug means bringing home an authentic fragment of the island, made of slow gestures, natural beauty, and meticulous attention to detail.
Handmade Cushions
Complement your interiors with the tactile elegance of handmade cushions. Crafted in the Sutessingiu workshop in Seulo, these pieces are designed to bring the same refined artistry of our large-scale rugs into the smaller, intimate details of your home. Each cushion is a “micro-masterpiece” of Sardinian weaving.
Using the traditional manual loom, Vilma creates intricate textures and symbolic patterns that transform a simple accessory into a statement of style.
Natural Fibers: Only the finest Sardinian wool, linen, and cotton are used to ensure a soft yet durable finish.
Artisanal Precision: Every cushion features hand-finished details that reflect the ancient textile heritage of the Barbagia region.
Unique Identity: Just like our rugs, these cushions can be customized to match your decor, making each piece an unrepeatable work of art.
Whether placed on a contemporary sofa or a traditional armchair, a Sutessingiu cushion adds warmth, history, and a touch of Mediterranean soul to any space. It is the ultimate choice for those who seek authentic, sustainable luxury in every corner of their home.
Identità oltre i confini
The ‘Pecorelle’ (Little Sheep) are a sign of belonging and a symbol of roots, community, and a land that becomes identity. It is here, in a small village, that a project was born with the ambition to expand its horizons. In the Su Tessingiu Seulo textile workshop, for over forty years, the artisanal gesture has transformed thread by thread, building a bridge between the local and the infinite. An imagined landscape that can inhabit any space.
The light and playful graphics evolve with the creative process. Arianna Piras imprints a visual language that welcomes and transforms experience. Thus, the project’s identity knows no limits or boundaries: it begins in Seulo, but reaches everywhere and anyone who wishes to find themselves in that land, even from afar.
