Split Monolith Table Lamp

A study in negative space and architectural tension, this striking sculptural lamp is entirely handcrafted from carta d’argilla (an innovative, eco-friendly blend of paper and clay). The form is a monolithic vertical block, boldly bisected by a deep, vertical void that transforms the solid piece into a compelling U-shaped structure. The surface is heavily textured, evoking the tactile, imperfect qualities of ancient stone or rough plaster.

When illuminated, the central cleft becomes a radiant conduit for light, casting an atmospheric glow that highlights the rugged, organic texture of the inner walls. The interplay between the solid, grounded exterior and the luminous inner void turns the piece into a dynamic focal point that shifts in character depending on the viewing angle. Whether turned on or off, it commands attention as a compelling abstract sculpture.

Born from approximately 10 days of dedicated manual labor, the lamp’s irregular edges and rough-hewn surface are deliberate, celebrated marks of the artisan’s hand. It is ideal as an ambient light source on a sideboard, a console table, or as a commanding accent piece in a contemporary space that values raw materiality and bold geometric design.
